Organisation of collateral events in the municipalities of province of Forli - Cesena

by Province of Forli-Cesena

Since the beginning of the project, the Province of Forlì-Cesena involved four of its municipalities in the implementation of the project activities. The choice of the four municipalities, namely Bertinoro-Fratta Terme, Castrocaro Terme e Terra del Sole, Cesenatico and Predappio, was born with the idea to include themes of the Fascist Period that are still visible in the architecture of the areas.

Predappio, as hometown of Benito Mussolini, dictator and founder of the Italian Fascist Party, represents one of the most important example of a new city building according to Rationalist architecture. Bertinoro Fratta Terme and, Castrocaro Terme e Terra del Sole were chosen for the theme of spa resorts and complexes that Fascism promoted through the construction of thermal facilities. Cesenatico is linked to the last Fascist theme, the development of the “colonie di vacanza” (holiday camps) for the workers’ children that were also aimed to promote the cult of body and health. One of the most valuable examples in terms of composition and style is the Colonia S.I. Mussolini (1937-38), designed by G. Vaccaro for AGIP that is located in Cesenatico and is one of the few still used for children summer camps.

To completion of the final conference of the project ATRIUM, a series of collateral events were organised in all the municipalities involved.

In particular the Province of Forlì-Cesena supported the organisation of three important exhibitions, in cooperation with the municipalities:

  • the photographic exhibition “Colonie Marine” (seaside holiday camps) from 1 to 30 June 2013 in Cesenatico. The exhibition is made up of documentary panels, objects of the period, video projections, historical photos and is divided into different sections.
  • the art exhibition “Tito Chini: from architecture to decoration” from 14 June to 30th September 2013 at the Feast Pavilion of Castrocaro Terme. Tito Chini was a fine artist in charge both of the decoration and the direction of the construction of the Feast Pavilion. The exhibition was realised by Prof. Ulisse Tramonti, member of the Scientific Committee of the project ATRIUM.
  • the art exhibition “Art and Colonialism. Art and Regime” from 5 to 14 June 2013 in Castrocaro Terme. The exhibition is made up of different pieces of African culture owned by a private family whose ancestors moved to Africa at the time of Italian colonies. The exhibition was also the starting point to develop a didactic project for schools.
